Ai'ai

As of yesterday, Alex has started to say his own name! When you ask him to say Alex, he will give his rendition of his own name: Ai'ai!

The word that Alex pronounces best is: No! He says it very slowly and emphatically, to make absolutely sure his point comes across. The opposite word he does not use a lot yet, although every now and then he says something that resemebles ja (yes). He prefers to nod slowly to answer a question.

Yoghurt

One of Alex's favorite foods is yoghurt. Everyday he has it for breakfast. Up until recently, the routine was that Rob would get the yoghurt from the fridge and the spoon from the drawer, and hand them to Alex. Then, Rob would ask Alex to sit at the table, and he would feed Alex. But with Alex's ever increasing skills, today at dinner, for the first time he walked to the fridge, opened it, got a yoghurt, walked over to the drawer and got himself a spoon, he then went to Rob, sat on his lap, had him open the yoghurt, and then he started eating from it by himself!

Can't touch this

In the study there are numerous things Alex is not allowed to touch, and he knows very well what he is and is not allowed to play with. Every now and then he will make the rounds through the study, and point out all the things to us that he is not supposed to touch! He will go over to an outlet, bend over and point, and say nono. Then on to the next off-limits item, bend over, point, and say nono. Then on the the next, and when he has identified them all he often goes back to the first one and points them all out again!

His favorite activity in the study is to sit at Cindy's desk and type on the keyboard, use the mouse, or switch on the computer. Unfortunately, the on-off switch is located front-center, so Alex can very easily reach it.

It is even more `fun' if Alex is using the computer when it is switched on. Because many of the important keys, especially the control key, are located within Alex's reach he usually manages to have interesting things happen, including reboot, renaming of files, and locking the computer...

A helping hand

Alex very much likes to use whatever it is we are using. When he spotted Rob's level, which is about 4 feet long, he grabbed it, and started walking around our cul-the-sac with it, occasionally pointing out to whoever was near that there are bubbles in the level.

Alex was also very interested in Grammies gardening (Cindy's mom has helped us a great deal with our yard), and he loved putting the mulch wherever it belonged or not. He would take a handful and throw it into the general direction of where it needed to be, and sometimes in the opposite direction, or at Cindy's mom. By the end, our yard looked a lot better, and Alex was covered in mulch!

In general, Alex is a good helper. He likes to help unload the dishwasher, and knows where things go. He is beginning to help with cleaning up, but he still specializes in making the mess. And, as you can see in the picture above, he also likes to help taking the groceries out of the bag and putting them in the fridge.
