Bota at 17 weeks

On March 11 a second set of sonograms was taken of Bota, then 17 weeks old. Although getting to see the baby again was in itself a moment to look forward too, it really was no fun at all because the sonograms were associated with an amniocentesis. On top of that, Rob was traveling and therefore could not come and support Cindy, but fortunately Cindy's mother came along.

We had decided that we wanted to find out the sex of the baby if possible, and luckily Bota obliged: she's a girl! Bota was less obliging when it came to cooperating with the measurements the doctor wanted to take. She was on the move and seemed to deliberately hide and obscure anything the sonographer wanted to measure. But after half an hour of hard work they got all the measurents, and all was well. We were also given some pictures of all the efforts, and below you see four what Cindy calls 'cute profiles' of Bota.

The amnio, which involves inserting a big and long needle, was uncomfortable, but not all that painful, except for the part when the needled was pulled out. That sensation was hard to put into words: it felt really "wrong". A couple of weeks after the amnio we got the results: the test were normal, and also confirmed that Bota is indeed a girl.
