 Irene has mastered the art of sitting up by herself. Of course she falls over every now and then, but if you can stay upright while your impetuous brother hugs and kisses you, you have mastered the art of sitting!

Irene went on a brief so-called nursing strike. We do not know exactly why, but we suspect Irene was startled when Cindy said 'Ouch' twice after Irene bit her twice while nursing. All of Saturday and Sunday Irene refused to nurse. She was totally content with the bottle, but no matter what we tried, she would not nurse. Apparently by Monday Irene decided she had made her point clear, and she happily nursed, much to Cindy's delight!

The last month of Cindy's maternity leave was full of events: Rob went on a trip, Rob's parents and a friend from Texas came to visit, and all of us visited Cindy's brother and his family in Vermont. But most important of all: Irene decided to sleep through the night, and gave up her fussiness in the evenings! More>

Irene continues to be a remarkably mellow baby during the day, when she is happy, naps, and makes cute noises. But at night, she often becomes much less happy. More>

Irene Maaike did very well during her first week, but she did develop a habit to be unhappy in the evening, sometimes for up to six hours. Rob had to go back to work, but fortunately Cindy's parents came to help us out. More>

After a tiring two days for Cindy in the hospital, it was time for the girls to come home. Alex was happy to help, and Irene was rather unmoved by the arrival in her new home. More>

 Irene Maaike Swaters was born on August 8, 2004, at 10:34 am. She weighed 9 pounds and 9.7 ounces (4360 grams). But there is much more to tell than only numbers! More>

On February 27 Irene was baptized in the church Onze Lieve Vrouwe van de Allerheiligste Rozenkrans, the same church where
